Between Text Messages and Adderall: Anatomy of a Predator Jacob Wessel Probable Cause Affidavit
A shocking case unfolds as we meticulously examine the probable cause affidavit filed against Jacob Wessel, a former robotics teacher at Mooresville Christian Academy in Indiana. The document reveals disturbing allegations of grooming behavior directed at a 13-year-old student, including inappropriate text messages stating he was "in love" with her and wanted to kiss her. Most troublingly, Wessel allegedly provided the minor with Adderall on school grounds and marijuana at his home—classic grooming tactics that escalated over several months.
What makes this case particularly disturbing is the apparent pattern of institutional failure. Speaker 1:Today, me and Julie are diving into a serious legal document, a probable cause affidavit from Morgan County, indiana, case number 55-D02-2505-F5, filed on May 15, 2025. This involves allegations against Jacob Wessel. We're going to read it verbatim, straight from the source, to give you the unfiltered details.
Speaker 2:That's right. We're keeping it raw and real, reading every word exactly as it appears in the affidavit. We'll alternate sections to keep it clear, starting with the introductory details and moving through the narrative.
Speaker 1:Let's do it. I'll kick things off with the first of page one. Here we go.
Speaker 2:Okay, moving to his charges, Wessel is being charged with a level five, child seduction, and a level five dealing in a schedule two, controlled substance with an enhancing circumstance.
Speaker 1:And then an a misdemeanor contributing for the probable cause still on page one. This probable cause is based upon the following facts and circumstances based on my personal knowledge, this report was prepared by Corporal Dodson on 1-14-25. I was assigned to follow up on his initial report, taken by Deputy Tolan. The report details events that occurred between a juvenile and a former robotics teacher, jacob Wessel. Wessel was terminated from the Mooresville Christian Academy in December of 2024. Below is the narrative from the initial report drafted by Deputy Tolan. On January 3rd 2024, while on duty with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, I, deputy Tolan, responded to Mooresville Police Department for a sex offense case. Dispatch advised the victim's mother stated her daughter's teacher had been sending her inappropriate text. I arrived on scene and met with the mother and stepmother to the victim, along with the victim identified as 13 years old.
Speaker 2:All right, let's move it to page two, picking up where this narrative continues. The stepmom stated that the victim currently goes to Mooresville Christian Academy out on State Road 144. She advised the victim has been texting a teacher identified as Jacob Wessel, 44 of Canby, indiana. Jacob was a robotics teacher at the school. The stepmom stated the victim has been texting Jacob since September of 2024. The victim said it was not unusual to text him because she, the victim, was close friends with Wessel's sons who also go to Mooresville Christian Academy. The victim said there was no physical intimacy between her and Jacob and that they never exchanged any type of pornographic photos between one another.
Speaker 1:Stepmom said the victim has already talked to the principal of the school and showed them the text messages between Jacob and her. The victim reportedly told the principal about the incident on December 18, 2024. The parents found out about the incident after the victim had went to the principal. Stepmom said the school has already released Jacob from his position after it was reported and was supposed to make a report with DCS, but they have not heard anything. Stepmom stated with DCS, but they have not heard anything. Stepmom stated this was not the first incident where Jacob has been communicating inappropriately with a minor. It was reported. There was another incident a year or two ago involved with another victim and Jacob. The victim told investigators that victim was 12 to 13 years old and also went to Mooresville Christian Academy. The school administration still let Jacob keep his position and that he was not allowed to be alone with students.
Speaker 2:So we're still on page two and here's where things get more specific about the allegations. It appeared from the text messages that Jacob supplied the victim with cannabis and used it with her. The victim told her parents that Jacob also gave her Adderall at school. Before I asked if Jacob would supply her the cannabis, she stated Jacob would and she would smoke it with him. Detectives looked at some text messages between the victim and Jacob that were located on the phone. On November 24th 2024, there was a text message of Jacob telling the victim how it made him feel good when she rubbed her boobs on him. The victim responded back to Jacob telling him that it made her uncomfortable that he felt that way. Jacob also talks about how they are in love.
Speaker 1:Damn. On December 14, 2024, Jacob messaged that he wanted to kiss her. On December 17, 2024, texted Jacob how it made her uncomfortable with his feelings for her. Jacob messaged that he did not see or put an age on it for his feelings. For these are just a summary of the messages. There were messages on the phone of Jacob talking about smoking with the victim. Mom said there was a lot of times that Jacob took the victim home or that she went up to Jacob's house to hang out with the kids. The victim advised that she had feelings for Jacob's son and really liked him and during the course of the messages, Jacob was trying to convince her not to like his son and to like him instead.
Speaker 2:That's crazy.
Speaker 1:That's fucked up Like a jealous ass dad, jealous because a little girl is liking your son. I mean you should be like a proud dad, like hey, I got a good-looking son, you know what I mean. And then giving her Adderall and smoking weed with her.
Speaker 2:Oh, my goodness. So in the messages there were screenshots of a conversation between a 17-year-old girl, and Jacob told her that this 17-year-old girl was stalking him. The mom reported she has also seen Jacob take other girls home as well. Mom reported one of the girls was 12 to 13 years old.
Speaker 1:Mom and stepmom both consented to a phone download on the victim's phone and would be willing to come down to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office to do that. The victim also stated she would consent to the phone download. The phone is currently in possession of mom and is not being used. Dcs has been contacted and made aware of the incident.
Speaker 2:Now we get into the forensic interview details. Aware of the incident? Now we get into the forensic interview details. Given the statements made by the victim, she was scheduled for a forensic interview at Susie's place in Avon. Below is a brief summation of the interview. The victim acknowledges that she is friends with the Wessel family and that she would do things with them often. The victim communicated regularly with Wessel via phone call or text. The victim states that Wessel did behave oddly at times. Wessel would rub her shoulders or back, which made her uncomfortable. Wessel and the victim would communicate about day-to-day things. Then Wessel began to text her. Then Wessel began to text her and she initially didn't think anything about it because she was so close to the family. Then the text got weirder and weirder and it made her uncomfortable. Wessel said that he liked her but stated that she didn't want to go into that.
Speaker 1:The victim states that she did eventually tell the administration of Mooresville Christian Academy about the behavior that made her uncomfortable. The victim was crying and emotional because she cares about the family. Wessel's behavior that made her uncomfortable started in September and ended in December of 2024. Further details that she tried to brush off his behavior and tell herself that that's not the kind of person he is and that she was having such a great time with the family she didn't want to ruin that. The victim does detail a message where Wessel tells her that he really liked her and he can't help it. She states that Wessel at one point texted her that he wanted to kiss her. She said that she told Wessel he was a grown-ass man and that was enough is enough and that what he was doing was not okay. Wessel replied to her and said they could make it work. The victim never disclosed any further touching or contact with Wessel.
Speaker 2:Thank goodness this girl went to her parents and she's very strong-minded, you know and he was straight up trying to groom her.
Speaker 1:He was trying to groom her at the fullest extent, Mm-hmm, Getting her high, making her feel welcome with the family. Here you need some Adderall Maybe make you focus in class a little better type shit probably.
Speaker 2:Yep. Now the victim states that one time Wessel gave her Adderall at Mooresville Christian Academy. She knew what it was because his kids were prescribed Adderall. She advised that she had a test that she was really stressed out about and that she told Wessel about it a test that she was really stressed out about and that she told Wessel about it. Wessel offered the Adderall and stated don't tell any other kids. She states that the Adderall was given to her directly by Wessel in the elementary school area of Mooresville Christian Academy. It is to note that the victim is not prescribed Adderall.
Speaker 2:Wessel offered marijuana to her and another person while they were at Wessel's house. The victim states she tried the marijuana gave to her by Wessel. She also states that she knew that it was marijuana because of how it smelled. Further details are that another person was there when she tried it and that that person did not have a reaction. She states that Wessel handed her the marijuana and that she tried it. That Wessel did not say anything as he handed it to her. She also states that on another occasion she was in the kitchen at the Wessel home and he blew marijuana smoke in her face.
Speaker 1:Wow, I told you that's what he was thinking about the speedy pills he was thinking about the speedy pills. The interview concludes shortly after that with no other pertinent information gleaned. The interview concludes shortly after with no other pertinent information gained. The obviously very defensive of Wessel and his family she states multiple times throughout the interview that she cares a lot about them and does not want to make this a quote unquote. Big deal. Also makes mention that she does not want Wessel to lose his kids.
Speaker 2:Now continuing on page four about the phone evidence and attempts to contact Wessel. I have reviewed the forensic phone extraction of the phone and did find messages from Wessel that coincide with the information she provided in her interview. I did not find any mention of physical contact between Wessel and the extraction will be submitted with this case for further review. The interview from Susie's place has also been attached. I have tried multiple times to make contact with Wessel and have had no success. I have tried via phone and also sent a uniformed deputy to his home. Wessel has failed to reach out to discuss the allegations in this report.
Speaker 1:We're almost done with this. We're still on page four with location and arrest warrant. All events occurred in Morgan County in the state of Indiana. For the foregoing reasons, I have probable cause to believe that the defendants named hereon committed the offenses stated above. I request that an arrest warrant be issued for the arrest of the defendants with bonds set in the amount set forth in the court's bond schedule for the arrest of the defendants with bonds set in the amount set forth in the court's bond schedule for the offenses charged. And that's the full probable cause affidavit. Folks, heavy stuff. Serious allegations about Jacob Wessel's interactions with a minor, including inappropriate text providing Adderall and offering marijuana. Julie, what stands out the most to you about this?
Speaker 2:It's disturbing. The detailed text messages, especially Wessel allegedly saying he's in love with a 13-year-old and wanting to kiss her, are chilling. The fact that the school had a prior incident and still kept him on, only restricting him from being alone with students, raises big questions and the victim's conflicted feelings. Defending the family while reporting this shows how complex these situations can be.
Speaker 1:You know, the victim's loyalty to the Wessel family makes it even tougher. The affidavit paints a picture of someone in a position of trust, crossing major lines. You know, I also thought it was weird and I wanted to add this in Like Brittany Fortenberry, she extremely changed her weight and her looks and shit. And that made her in my mind—.
Speaker 1:That's what she said in her interview? Yeah, and she wanted to relive her childhood. I wonder if that in any way had anything to do with this dude, because if you look at the pictures of him, he lost a tremendous amount of weight.
Speaker 2:Don't even look like the same person at all.
Speaker 1:No, absolutely not.
Speaker 2:Something tells me this type of behavior is nothing new for Jacob. The Reporter Times in Martinsville reported back in October 7th of 2015 that a Jacob Wessel, 35, was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. We are still in the process to confirm if this is the same Wessel, but the agent address area match up. But funny thing is, when you go and search the my Case portal, no case whatsoever is found. I mean, what happened to it? Where did it go?
Speaker 1:I bet he had it expunged. I've heard of people getting stuff expunged and it disappears from my case and everything.
Speaker 2:And that's like a minor charge. Yeah, or it could be. Is it a misdemeanor? Is it always a felony, or is it a misdemeanor no?
Speaker 1:I think it coincides with the whatever you let the minor get away with, like if you let the minor do a felony, then I think the contributing charge is a felony. I could be wrong about that. If so, you guys can reach out. I'm sure you guys will. If you let a minor, like, say, drive a truck, if you're teaching your son how to drive a truck. That honestly happened to me one time I was teaching our oldest boy to drive a truck on a back road and the little shit did a burnout and this was like 20 some years yeah the cop saw it just wrote me a ticket for contributing to the delinquency of a minor because I let my minor drive my truck without a license.
Speaker 1:And I was kindly appalled by that, because how the hell do you teach your damn kid how to drive? I guess I should have done it a little bit legal-er. I don't know, I thought it was cool he was doing the burnout myself. But back to the case. I want to talk about this letter sent out from Mooresville Christian Academy. This letter email was sent out back in December of 2024. Let's read the letter and then we'll talk about it. Dear MCA family, I want to update you on the truth of the reason why Mr Wessel is no longer at MCA. Mr Wessel was hired several years ago and over the years we have investigated some inappropriate teacher behavior. These behaviors have not been sexual acts, criminal acts etc. And the behaviors have been found not to be true. All accusations have been investigated and CPS has been called in on the accusations, even when the student involved states this did not happen. All accusations have been screened out or unfounded.
Speaker 2:Accusations have been screened out or unfounded, but over the years parents continue to spread child abuse and misconduct rumors about Mr Wessel. I am very disappointed because I have investigated every single accusation. Mr Wessel is not perfect and he did make some inappropriate statements, but these were dealt with and he did make some inappropriate statements, but these were dealt with.
Speaker 1:With these accusations about Mr Wessel, we put certain measures into action to protect him and MCA. One of these measures included no texting a student individually. A student brought some text messages to us that were not sexual in nature no pictures, nothing criminal but this behavior was a violation of our agreement. Again, there is a back story that was verified by the parent involved, but this action is still a violation of our agreement.
Speaker 2:Mr Wessel has worked extremely hard to make MCA better and he has made an amazing impact in the lives of so many MCA students. Unfortunately, in this situation, this letter is to inform you that, moving forward, Mr Wessel is no longer employed at MCA. Please pray for him and his family. Bruce Peters, head of the school.
Speaker 1:Boy. He was sure working hard all right, but it wouldn't make the school better.
Speaker 2:Wow, can you believe this letter? No, but it wouldn't make the school better, wow.
Speaker 1:Can you believe this letter? No, that's insane. What the fuck.
Speaker 2:I'm in shock. All the accusations have been screened out or unfounded. Has every accusation screened by who? Screened by the school?
Speaker 1:I mean they say they called DCS, but we don't know for a fact that they did.
Speaker 2:Well, in the probable cause affidavit they said they contacted DCS but DCS never contacted. You know the person who reported that.
Speaker 1:Mr Peters, that's why you're head of a school and not an investigator. Shit like that comes up.
Speaker 2:People need to contact investigators and let them do their job, both of them.
Speaker 1:Absolutely.
Speaker 2:And then he goes on to continue. But over the years, so over the years, parents keep continuing to come to you reporting this abuse and misconduct about Mr Wessel, and you're mad at them Because you investigated every single accusation.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's almost like he's pissed off. Over the years, teachers and students have made such bad rumors about Mr Wessel. God bless his Adderall-given ass.
Speaker 2:And the accusations were so serious. You can see that in this letter the accusations were so serious. You can see that in this letter With the accusations, they even put in certain measures. They said they put certain safety standards into action, meaning into place oh, I read that wrong To protect him and not the students.
Speaker 1:That's a little bit fucked up, I have to say, not the students, that's a little bit fucked up, I have to say, and I'm sure there's nothing wrong with 99% of Mooresville Christian Academy there is a hell of a lot of nice teachers and nice academic shit going on there.
Speaker 2:Wow, I'm I'm confused.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I have to say I'm a little bit confused too.
Speaker 2:So I got um. A follower sent me some screenshots that came from I believe it was Angela Ganote's comment section and in the screenshots it says at the top of it letter to president of MCA and it's to Mr Wright and what this is? It's like a documentation of a school board meeting and all these complaints and concerns these parents have had and they're like in bulletin points and then below that it has in red the conclusion of whatever allegation that it was all at the time. Now it says, mr, right upon seeking legal counsel, we are sending this email to document concerns shared in the recent board meeting on september 27, 2022. After further thought and prayer, we feel the numerous concerns we have raised regarding Mr Wessel have been inadequately addressed. We also have concerns that our children continue to have regular contact with Mr Wessel as the only adult in the classroom, despite being led to believe that efforts have been made to eliminate his independent supervision of the children.
Speaker 1:In November 2021, parents communicated that their children reported that Mr Wessel was allegedly showing inappropriate videos in class, allowing children to watch inappropriate videos in class, using bad language in class and allowing children to do the same, and this is what the school's reply to that allegation was.
Speaker 2:This alleged incident was investigated and was not found to be inappropriate. As the allegation above infers, mr Wessel received coaching on proper classroom management.
Speaker 1:So he was watching inappropriate videos, allowing kids to watch and cussing using bad language, and he got a little bit of coaching on proper classroom management. Wow, here's the second bullet point. In April of 2022, a parent witnessed an inappropriate interaction with Mr Wessel anda, female child, in the hallway. The parent reported the child was clearly uncomfortable with this interaction, and here's the school's answer to that allegation.
Speaker 2:This alleged incident was investigated. Video evidence exists that clearly refutes this allegation. Both the video evidence and the follow-up discussion with the student involved in this interaction confirmed that Mr Wessel was simply reminding the student of MCA's cell phone policy for students.
Speaker 1:Oh, mr Wessel boy, he's a stickler on them. Rules now.
Speaker 2:Yep.
Speaker 1:He was reminding the kid on them rules. Now he was reminding the kid. In April 2022, a student reported to their parent that they witnessed a female classmate sitting on Mr Wessel's lap during technology class. The parent then made a report to Mr Peters. Here's their answer to that allegation.
Speaker 2:This alleged incident was investigated, none of the female students that were allegedly involved in this allegation state that this happened. Dcs would agree with this statement. Now, these last two or this allegation and the previous one were both in April of 2022. So that's two in one month.
Speaker 1:Wow, and, of of course, they were investigated and the kids said it didn't happen and blah, blah, blah. That don't make no fucking sense to me. Here's the next bullet point. In august of 2022, a parent had an impromptu meeting with mr pet, revealing that her child reported to her that Mr Wessel favors girls and lets them sit on his lap during class in robotics. It was this person's perception that Mr Peters assumed that he already knew the situation to which she was referring to, and they refer to the bullet point above, as he did not ask any further questions. As a result, the administration was first made aware of the full details of this situation at the September 27th board meeting, and here's their reply to that allegation.
Speaker 2:By this date, mr Peters had already investigated this alleged incident and found the allegation to be false, as described in detail. At the September 2020 MCA board meeting with a redacted name in attendance, actions were taken to protect those involved from false allegations such as this one from being repeated.
Speaker 1:So all the parents and all the kids are lying at this point this is sounding awful weird to me. It's almost sounding like dude's got something on dude or something. You know what I mean, or you know, and before anybody's panties get in a bunch, I'm not saying dude has something on dude, I'm just saying it sounds like it.
Speaker 2:You know what I mean In September of 2022, a female child reported to a parent that she cars pools with that two of her female friends told her that they had allegedly sat on Mr Russell's lap and this is what that report was back to them.
Speaker 1:Based on information available to the MCA administration and board, this appears to be a continuation of harmful hearsay and gossip stemming from the original allegation. Unfortunately, this behavior appears to be reinforced by adults whose words and actions are creating unfounded fear amongst some of our students. This was investigated by MCA, with a follow-up review by the Indiana Department of Child Services, who has also not found any evidence to support this allegation of Child Services, who has also not found any evidence to support this allegation.
Speaker 2:Wow, since the board meeting in September, additional information has come to light that has elevated our concerns. Mr Wessel has allegedly shared pornographic, sexually explicit, depraved videos with others, who subsequently shared those videos as amusing antidotes with a peer's parents while on vacation. Wow.
Speaker 1:And here's how they responded to that allegation. This alleged incident was investigated. Mr Wright and Mr Peters called the parent who allegedly shared this information with another redacted name During this discussion. The parents stated that the details alleged above are not an accurate account of what occurred. They stated that two videos were briefly referenced in a conversation and their response was to shut down the discussion before it progressed. They assumed that the videos being referenced might be in pornographic nature. The allegation that Mr Wessel had shared any pornographic videos to anybody has not been backed up by anybody in attendance when the incident allegedly occurred occurred. Furthermore, there is no evidence to support this claim, which appears to be an attempt to not only smear an MCA staff member, but also children and students.
Speaker 2:We care deeply about the future of this school and we wish to continue to partner with MCA in our children's education. Partner with MCA in our children's education. We sincerely hope that these concerns will be reviewed and this situation will be revisited. We look forward to your response. And here was their response.
Speaker 1:Dear parents, the MCA school board and Mr Peters welcomes constructive input from all MCA families. Parental involvement in all aspects of their children's time at MCA is encouraged. In regards to the content of this letter, we take all of these accusations seriously. As parents of MCA students ourselves, we are here to ensure that MCA is a safe environment for our students that offers them opportunities to excel in academics, spiritual developments and athletics. All of the allegations outlined above have been thoroughly investigated by the proper authorities.
Speaker 1:It appears that the findings of these investigations do not meet your desired outcome for Mr Wessel, which makes this an unfortunate situation for everyone involved. Our hope is that everyone involved can accept the outcome of these investigations and move forward in a positive manner, whether that be at MCA or outside of MCA. Upon advice from our attorney and in accordance with our policies, we must inform you that continuing to repeat false accusations against an MCA staff member or student, which results in the interruption of the education process and MCA experience for our student body, is unacceptable and will not be allowed to continue. If this behavior continues, mca will remove any students and families who are involved in this behavior from our enrollment in order to protect our students and staff from the repercussions of this behavior. Upon reviewing the facts of this unfortunate situation, we feel that Mr Russell likely has enough evidence to pursue legal action. Our prayer is that this stops immediately.
Speaker 2:Wow, and this says Mark Wright and the MCA school board.
Speaker 1:That's crazy.
Speaker 2:That's like if you don't stop saying that this teacher's doing this.
Speaker 1:We're going to kick your kid and your family off the stool grounds and completely not associate you with the mca schools and then, oh well, keep talking, keep saying this, and he's gonna sue you now.
Speaker 2:Look, the police have investigated him for five months and their their investigation found um, some problems, apparently because there was enough probable cause for him to be charged.
Speaker 1:Man, I bet the board that was coming back with their responses to these bullet points feels like an asshole. Now you know what I mean.
Speaker 2:What if that victim would have had an allergic reaction to that Adderall or you know that could have blew her heart up?
Speaker 1:Absolutely it could have. I mean, you don't know what, she didn't know what kind of medicine she was taking at home, or you know what. I mean you can't mix some of that shit together, I'm sure.

Speaker 1:And like I said earlier but I do want to interrupt we're not saying anything bad about MCA whatsoever. I'm sure it's a really good school.
Speaker 2:Then there's good teachers in every school.
Speaker 1:Absolutely, and you know it breaks my heart for you teachers and the staff members at MCA who are really trying to make you know kids responsible adults. It sucks that there's a few bad apples.
Speaker 2:In the bunch.
Speaker 1:In the bunch. So the only thing that we can do MCA and everybody is resolve this shit, get this dude held accountable and move forward and make it better from here.
Speaker 2:Absolutely. And since we posted about this story, people start reaching out and somebody reached out with a message and said he did use 3D printing to gain access and relationship with students. He was in the elementary wing with the first two fifth grade kids. The only way to and from some of the classes was passing by his room, so she's saying that a lot of the kids had to go by his room. Basically he's seen them all all the time.
Speaker 1:And it seems like there was more than one person who said that they saw a little girl sitting on his lap. I mean, there is no reason or no situation where any student should be sitting on any adult's fucking lap.
Speaker 2:Another comment said I am disgusted with this entire situation. They assured everyone that all these allegations were investigated. The administration left this predator in the hall with elementary kids.
Speaker 1:I can see that you know especially the heads of these schools want everything to go smoothly, and if you don't think that, we understand that. You guys are under a lot of stress running these schools. But there just has to be a certain protocol for when shit like this comes up. It needs to be hit hard, investigated and dealt with immediately.
Speaker 2:Here's another comment that said they built that high school and had cameras put in the classroom that was supposed to be Wessel's classroom. When he found out about the cameras he decided to stay in the elementary classroom. They let him. None of us knew what to do. It was taken to the administration and the board over and over. We were shut down and accused of spreading rumors.
Speaker 1:I can't help but wonder why, like when you read the reactions to these bullet points, I can't help but wonder why in my head that they continue to deflect this shit.
Speaker 2:Probably because this is a private school. People have to pay a lot of money for their children to go to school. And when you pay a lot of money for your child to go to school, not only do you want them educated, you want to make sure they are thoroughly protected.
Speaker 1:I hope and pray that none of this shit went any further than the allegations that we've already talked about in this episode.
Speaker 2:Oh, it has. I mean, there's been earlier reports. That has happened a few years ago.
Speaker 1:But I think you mean saying I mean, and I hope there's not worse shit out there that we don't know, and thank God that it's come to light and the law dog is after his ass now. Yeah, and hopefully this stopped from you know, because this shit doesn't just stop with sitting on the lap and here's an Adderall, here's smoke, this joint I want to kiss you it. Don't fucking stop there, as we've learned from all these cases that we investigate. It's like dope to these people, man, they cannot fucking stop and they just need to get a little bit higher and a little bit higher until it's a big mess.
Speaker 2:It's a horrible mess and it's like in these emails and stuff like that, they're like oh, he was such a good person and this and that Not if he's doing this, no, he's not a good person.
