Speaker 2:

Hey everyone. I'm so excited to be here with you today.

Speaker 1:

Today we're going to be exploring the recent murder of Deborah Meyer in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Speaker 2:

Jeffersonville is a city located in southern Indiana right along the state line bordering Louisville, kentucky. It sits along the Ohio rivers and locals often refer to it as a suburb of Louisville. It's part of Clark County, indiana.

Speaker 1:

If you want directions, you just hop on 69 South and it'll take you all the way down. Right before you cross the state line you'll see multiple exits for Jeffersonville. You can't really miss it.

Speaker 2:

So on the evening of Valentine's Day this year, 2025, the Jeffersonville Police Department received a call around 1140 pm. A report of a domestic disturbance had come in. The caller was a male friend of deborah meyer. He told dispatch that he had received a call from a woman screaming and confirmed he knew it was deborah. He identified taylor meyer, her partner and husband, as the one engaging in the disturbance and mentioned that Taylor was threatening to kill her.

Speaker 1:

When the police arrived at Deborah and Taylor's home, they established a perimeter around the residence. The caller, in a panic, arrived on the scene as well. While he was speaking with the officers, he received another text message from Deborah's phone. It was a horrifying picture of Deborah lying on the floor, bleeding. Essentially, it was a photograph of her lifeless body.

Speaker 2:

The patrol units were able to take Taylor into custody. After his apprehension, medics went inside the house to render aid to Deborah, who was found in her master bedroom alongside a knife, a cell phone and a glass wine bottle on the floor.

Speaker 1:

The detective assigned to this case was actually at home, asleep, when he received the call to head to Norton Hospital. His primary goal was to interview Taylor and figure out what the heck had transpired that evening.

Speaker 2:

Upon arrival at Norton Hospital, the detective met with a patrolman who was assigned to secure the suspect. Taylor was just arriving in the hospital bay by ambulance, having been transported there to have taser probes removed from his back per the police department policy.

Speaker 1:

So we know that they, the police, tased him. I wonder what led up to the tasing. I wonder if they have to call in the SWAT team to extract him.

Speaker 2:

Well, you would think. When the detective arrived, taylor appeared nonverbal with the medical staff and the officer. They placed him and the detective into a treatment room. The detective introduced himself and he asked the other officer to remove Taylor's handcuffs and advised him of his Miranda rights. By this time it's around 1.30 am on February 15th.

Speaker 1:

The detective recorded audio and video statements from Taylor using his body cam. At this point, taylor didn't ask for legal representation. During their conversation, taylor shared that he had had three children with Deborah ages four, two and one. He also confirmed that he lived at the address where the death investigation was taking place.

Speaker 2:

While they were talking, the detective was making observations, trying to assess if Taylor had any signs of trauma, Despite everything he had supposedly just gone through. There were no visible injuries. However, photos of Taylor's hands revealed a red substance consistent with dry blood.

Speaker 1:

Taylor then told the detective that he and Debra had been married for four years, having dated for five years prior to that point, so they'd been together almost a decade. He began to open up about the issues in their marriage.

Speaker 2:

In early January 2025, Taylor received a Facebook message from a female friend he hadn't spoken to in over a decade, so just out of the blue. What struck me as odd was that Taylor said he only knew this girl because of a mutual friend who dated her.

Speaker 1:

That is kind of weird. Just like that, you get a message from somebody you barely know. I mean, what did the message say?

Speaker 2:

It contained a picture of Debra holding hands with another man at the Horseshoe Casino.

Speaker 1:

So he gets a message from this girl he barely knows, and it's a picture of his wife holding hands with a dude at a casino.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

That's crazy. That must have caused a big uproar in the relationship, to say the least, especially if he was totally blindsided by it. The crazy part is he recognized the guy in the pictures, as one of her co-workers, taylor, mentioned that they were involved in some sort of clandestine relationship and he had saved in her phone as my best friend, emily oh, the old savior.

Speaker 2:

What the hell does that even mean a clandestine relationship? I'm not sure.

Speaker 1:

Maybe like over-friendly, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

So, and Taylor also knew that this co-worker was the one who called the police to report the domestic disturbance.

Speaker 1:

So what happened that evening? To escalate things to that point, where did Debra lose her life? I mean, how'd he get to that?

Speaker 2:

So it was Valentine's Day and Taylor wanted to make it very special. Clearly, his marriage was on the rocks and he was attempting one last Hail Mary to save it.

Speaker 1:

He had said he even called Debra's best friends to help him find the perfect dress. He probably bought a dress that he thought was sexy for a dinner, and then he also got a dinner from a restaurant called Kanzai.

Speaker 2:

What is Kanzai?

Speaker 1:

I had to look it up too. It's a fancy Japanese steakhouse in Clarksville, indiana.

Speaker 2:

So in his mind he was really pulling out all the stops. He even had his kids draw pictures of the Eiffel Tower for a bring pears to you themed dinner.

Speaker 1:

I wonder why he didn't get like fazoles or something Italian. Maybe she really liked the Japanese steakhouse. Taylor said that evening was supposed to be very special. He felt like he was trying his hardest to save his marriage, but everything went completely wrong. He commented that this was the hardest he had ever tried and it didn't matter what he did. Debra just didn't matter what he did. Debra just didn't give a fuck, is his exact words.

Speaker 2:

I wonder how far they got into dinner before everything hit the fan.

Speaker 1:

Well, they did make it through dinner. I can only imagine the tension in the air. I bet it was freaking awkward.

Speaker 2:

Now Taylor said that after dinner there was an argument in the garage of the residence and Debra decided to drive off in her Ford Explorer. When she was leaving he kept throwing shade and talking shit, saying you're going to drive off right when your boyfriend gets off work. That's pretty convenient.

Speaker 1:

So she hops in her ride, she takes off. That only pisses Taylor off more. He starts pacing back and forth. He said he was throwing a few things around. He was livid. He went out of his way to show her love and now it feels like it's too late. She just didn't give a shit anymore. The animosity had been building over the past two months. Taylor had been staying home with the kids while, in his own words, she goes out every Saturday night, screws whoever she wants and then comes home and lies to my face about it.

Speaker 2:

It sounds like their relationship was like a pressure cooker. From Debra's perspective, it seems she was completely done with this marriage. Taylor's statements make it clear that this was not a happy home. After about 20 minutes, Debra returns to the house. So did she just take a drive or did she go see her lover? Did she go to the store?

Speaker 1:

Did she go to the casino? Who really knows? All we do know for sure is that Debra came back home exhausted and ready for bed. Maybe she went to the gym.

Speaker 2:

She was only gone 20 minutes. She was just trying to get away from him. She was sticking her in his shit.

Speaker 1:

Probably. She goes into the bathroom and while she's in there, taylor starts trying to go through her smartwatch. It seems he couldn't find what he was looking for, so he demanded that Debra hand over her cell phone. Immediately Debra was like Fuck you, my cell phone, my property, you can go get fucked. And that was her exact words. And you're not getting my phone.

Speaker 2:

Now. Taylor then tried to physically wrestle the phone away from her. As soon as he put his hands on her, debra punched him right in the face.

Speaker 1:

He wasn't taking her damn phone.

Speaker 2:

No, boy, I mean, I bet she let him have it. It was late around 11 pm and she'd been dealing with this nonsense all day. Yeah, she definitely gave it to him.

Speaker 1:

So she gives him a love tap and he grabs her physically, restraining her. He takes her phone and boasts I'm stronger than you, taylor admitted. It turned into a wrestling match and then he started choking her.

Speaker 2:

While Taylor was choking the life out of Deborah, she was desperately grabbing for anything to help her. She reached for a water bottle, cracked it over his head and then he stopped choking her.

Speaker 1:

She started screaming what are you going to do? Kill me, you're going to hurt me and leave our kids without parents. She was pleading for help, calling for the children and for the police to come.

Speaker 2:

Not only did he choke her, but he also sat on top of her pinning her to the ground. Now, this guy weighed 215 pounds. He was choking her with both hands and then she passes out and dies. He starts going through her cell phone again like not even giving a shit that she could be dead from you choking her 215 pounds sitting on your back, face down.

Speaker 1:

I mean that's that's quite a bit. Now, if you're at a point in your relationship where you have to pin your spouse down and fight over a phone or access to their electronic devices, I mean you might as well hang it up. Trust is the foundation of any successful relationship will hang it up.

Speaker 2:

Trust is the foundation of any successful relationship. While Debra was pinned to the ground screaming, taylor flipped through her phone and he went to the contact saved as my best friend, emily. He then called that contact. The phone rang and rang, but all you could hear was silence, no, hello, nothing except the sound of the call being picked up.

Speaker 1:

So we found out that my best friend, emily is the code word for the male friend. Debra was seen in the pictures from the Horseshoe Casino holding hands and all smoochy smoochy. The dead silence on the call sent Taylor over the edge. He yelled it's your fucking fault, you want to ruin my marriage and tear my family apart. Meanwhile Debra was screaming bloody murder that Taylor was going to kill her and begged for the police.

Speaker 2:

As she should be. I mean, I bet that guy who answered that phone almost had a heart attack.

Speaker 1:

I mean, he was like shit, we're definitely caught now. I mean, the dude already must have knew what was going on. He had probably already previously went through her phone and figured out that my best friend Emily was her boyfriend.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he knew how to get in her phone. He had her passcode.

Speaker 1:

Well, Taylor begins choking her again until she literally loses consciousness. Then he walks into the kitchen and grabs what he describes as a big-ass kitchen knife, a long one. He comes back and starts stabbing Debra in the chest multiple times.

Speaker 2:

So he didn't really know for sure if she was just passed out or deceased. He was making assumptions, but it seems to me that Taylor wasn't taking any chances. He wanted to ensure that Debra was not alive. If he thought she was already dead, then why go get the knife? Why stab her like that? I wonder what the psychology is behind that.

Speaker 1:

Well, he was going to make damn sure the job was done because you know, if the chick, if Debra, wasn't in love with him anymore, then she was damn sure going to call the law on him and press charges for assault. I mean, that's batshit crazy. That's the psychology behind that kind of behavior. After stabbing Debra over 40 times, he grabs her cell phone and pulls up the my Best Friend, emily contact. Then he takes pictures of Debra's lifeless body and sends it, with a text with a big your fault to the number associated with her male co-worker. This picture was taken before Debra had sustained all those stab wounds.

Speaker 2:

So after he choked her to death, he got up, took a picture, then went to the kitchen and got the knife. He's just like in a blind rage. He's just like in a blind rage. Or now, meanwhile, the, the police are outside the home, establishing this perimeter to stay safely, extract Deborah and detain Taylor. Not only did he send a text message to her coworker, but he also sent a group text to the to two of Deborah's best friends, stating I killed her. He claimed he did this because he felt her friends were encouraging this behavior.

Speaker 1:

After some intense moments, the police did finally apprehend Taylor. They ended up tasing him, so he had to be transported to the hospital. As we previously mentioned, they had to get the taser barbs removed from his back. After a brief conversation with detectives, he was then transported to the jail. While at the jail, the detectives requested to speak with him again to clarify some things that he had previously disclosed.

Speaker 2:

The detective wanted to know if Taylor thought Deborah was deceased before he stabbed her. Taylor described the entire ordeal as a huge screaming match. He verified that, yeah, he transmitted the photo and even said he hoped that Debra's male friend was traumatized by all this. He also stated he just wanted to be honest, that the detectives were doing their job and he knows what happens tonight or happened tonight.

Speaker 1:

While the detectives were re-interviewing Taylor, they observed that he was lucid, he knew right from wrong. They didn't smell alcohol and they believed he was in his right mind at that moment. He demonstrated the ability to answer questions and recall details, this time during their conversations.

Speaker 2:

Taylor seemed very forthcoming, asked him why he sent the messages to Deborah's friends. He said he felt they weren't good friends and that he had previously asked them for help to save his marriage. He even had one of the friends help him plan his Valentine's Day event.

Speaker 1:

You know, if he asked her friends for help, this dude was probably desperate to save his marriage. I mean also because he thought the girl's girlfriends at her work and her girlfriends was encouraging the behavior Right.

Speaker 2:

Now we can assume that since he reached out to her friends, they likely let Debra know what was going on. Let's be honest Her friends have her back, they know she's over it and would definitely give her a heads up.

Speaker 1:

That sounds about right In Taylor's mind. He believed that he and Debra were working on their marriage. They had even had a marriage counseling session set up for the upcoming Monday. But he couldn't shake the fact that during the entire dinner Debra had a resting bitch face. She was neither thrilled nor pretending to be moved. That was completely out of the question. What is a resting bitch face? She was neither thrilled nor pretending to be moved. That was completely out of the question. What is a resting bitch face?

Speaker 2:

It's just like where you are fucking mad.

Speaker 1:

And you have no emotions.

Speaker 2:

No, you're not thrilled at all to be in the spot you're in.

Speaker 1:

I'd be pissed too. I set up the whole parish deal and Japanese food. Oh, I think it pissed too.

Speaker 2:

I set up the whole parish deal and Japanese food. Oh, I think it goes deeper she has been upset for quite a long time. So I wonder what he did during this whole time, over the four years that they were married, to push her to the brink of wanting to see somebody else Now. Taylor even wrote a sweet note inside of her Valentine's Day card Sorry, you've had to do this all by yourself. It won't happen again. He said this because he had been trying to help out more around the house.

Speaker 1:

Deborah then tells Taylor you know, it shouldn't have taken this long for you to do this.

Speaker 2:

Yep, she's fed up. From what I can tell, debra has been balancing work, a home life, probably losing herself in the hustle and bustle of being a working mother. Especially when you have a spouse who isn't pulling their weight, the little things matter the most. Just being thoughtful and considerate can go a long way. She probably felt unappreciated for so long that she simply checked out of the marriage.

Speaker 1:

Taylor shared that they were slow dancing to their wedding song in the living room and he felt like he had done a good job that evening. But the built-up animosity seemed to overshadow everything. Debra continued to be distant, flipping through her Facebook memories and commenting that Taylor had never gone out of his way to make anything special on Valentine's Day.

Speaker 2:

Taylor then told Debra if this is going to be our last Valentine's Day together, I want it to be nice. He clarified later that he meant her leaving him, not what had happened that night.

Speaker 1:

I'm sure you could cut the tension with a knife in there, man. Both Taylor and Debra just couldn't seem to repair their broken marriage. Taylor decided to go outside to the hot tub because he couldn't sleep. Thoughts of Debra continuously cheating were running through his head. He grabbed a bottle of wine to chill out in the hot tub, but as he was getting ready he saw Debra preparing to leave. That's when the argument in the garage erupted.

Speaker 2:

There was yelling, screaming and a few fuck yous exchanged. Taylor kept talking shit, saying oh, how convenient You're leaving right now and your boyfriend gets off work, you know. So, debra's, like I'm not listening to your shit, I'm leaving Now. We know for sure that while she was gone, that she could have been driving around or running to the store. He was just talking shit.

Speaker 1:

I believe this situation is what set everything into motion. For the rest of the night, taylor was furious, completely irate. When Debra left, he said that he had to stay in the house and watch the kids because they were sleeping. So he never made it to the hot tub with his bottle of wine. All those thoughts about her cheating were swirling in his head and he was so pissed because he felt like he was the only one left to watch the children again.

Speaker 2:

Taylor told the detective that there hadn't been any previous physical altercations in their marriage, just a lot of yelling and screaming. He went into more detail about that night, admitting that the argument started because he was trying to go through her smartwatch while she was in the bathroom and then, when she came out, he demanded to have her phone.

Speaker 1:

Of course she said no, and that's when Taylor crossed the line. That's when he physically took her phone from her. That's when she started fighting back, like most women would if someone puts their hands on them.

Speaker 2:

Now, during this altercation, Taylor choked Debra multiple times, even to the point where she lost consciousness. When she came to, taylor was sitting on top of her, pinned down, going through her phone, and she was like what the fuck are you doing?

Speaker 1:

At that moment Taylor was completely spiraling. He told Debra I've already crossed the line and there's no going back. Even after choking her until she was completely unconscious, she revived. She was furious with him for what he had just done. Debra's phone was lying on the bed and when she went to get it they started fighting again.

Speaker 2:

He pinned her to the ground and began interrogating her about some sexy pictures he had found that were never sent to him, while his 215-pound body was sitting on her back. He told her that's the stages of cheating start with texting, then you send selfies, then it goes to underwear pics and then it ends up with nudes and then you're fucking. Taylor told the detective that he wasn't buying deborah's explanation for why she had taken those sexy pictures.

Speaker 1:

Deborah had stated that she was taking the pictures because she was going to lose weight taylor claimed that Debra was taking those sexy pictures because she was trying to lose weight, but he called her out, saying she was full of shit and that her behavior had disrespected him and their family.

Speaker 2:

So this fight went on for a long time. Taylor had multiple chances to stop what he was doing and walk away, but he didn't. He told Debra there's no going back, it's either you or me, and I've already gone too far.

Speaker 1:

Taylor then called the contact my best friend, emily, which we know is her male coworker, the same one she was holding hands with. The phone rang until it didn't ring and all you could hear was silence. Taylor told the guy this is all your fault, while Debra was screaming bloody murder in the background. Then the call was ended.

Speaker 2:

So Taylor then put Debra in a headlock while she was screaming, fighting and yelling go kill yourself. Instead, our kids are going to wake up without parents if you continue this. In the midst of all this chaos, debra asked for a drink of water so that Taylor would stop choking her, and then, whenever she got the bottle, she hit him with it, and that's when Taylor began punching her.

Speaker 1:

He punched her in the leg, the stomach, the face, pretty much everywhere. While he was attacking this poor woman, she was frantically saying really, you're going to kill me. She curled up in the fetal position trying to protect herself, but Taylor grabbed the big wine bottle and started hitting her with it. He claimed to hit deborah three to four times in the head with a bottle.

Speaker 2:

That's serious shit blood was obviously leaking from deborah's head and taylor decided that that was a good time to start choking her again. Despite her fighting with everything that she had left in her, he continued choking to choking her until she showed no signs of life.

Speaker 1:

So Taylor had just murdered Debra and he texted her friends I just killed Debbie because she is a lying and cheating bitch along with a photo of her lifeless body to the male co-worker. Not only did he text her friends, but this was a group chat that included all her siblings. So guess what? They got the message too.

Speaker 2:

Talk about stone cold. So when it was all said and done, he had stabbed Deborah at least 40 times. This completely goes beyond a fit of rage. By his own admission, his intention was to kill Deborah. When asked, he simply said I guess.

Speaker 1:

After he finished mutilating his wife, he heard banging on the door. It was the police. Details of his apprehension aren't available at this time, but we do know that a taser was deployed to detain and calm him down.

Speaker 2:

So after they detained him, taylor told the detectives that he loved his wife beyond belief and all he wanted to do is make his marriage work. He disclosed that he sent a previous message over Facebook to the male co-worker stating that's my wife until it's not Stay away. He also revealed that he read text messages from Debra's phone to an unknown person indicating that she and the male co-worker really liked each other and that she had planned to keep communicating with him. She had even stated that whenever she got her W-2s around tax time, that she was going to move out and file for divorce.

Speaker 1:

Now we got three small children who have lost everything their mother, their father. They are likely with family, so let's pray for their little tiny souls. Taylor was booked into the Clark County Jail and is awaiting either a plea deal or a trial. Given the amount of evidence in this confession, it looks like Taylor is going to be away for a long time.

Speaker 2:

Let this serve as a public service announcement. Putting your hands on a person you love is never okay. If you feel an argument getting out of hand, remove yourself from that environment. Domestic violence is real and we lose too many people to it.

Speaker 1:

In the show notes I'll post resources for domestic violent victims. I know this topic is hard to discuss, especially with loved ones. If you're experiencing domestic abuse, please tell a friend, a family member or someone you trust.
